My 3 chooks are 20 months and one has started her first moult...feathers being shed everywhere!
Just wondered how long it could last? They're all the same age so should I expect them all to moult?
I assume it's normal for egg laying to ease off during the moult?

Hello Vietta,
My girls tend to lay off laying when they are moulting.  I think that is normal.  It seems to take about a week but someone more experienced may have some more accurate info.  They are certainly not very happy when they are moulting.  They can also look incredibly scruffy, poor things.  They can also have partial moults and full moults.  Mine seem to choose different times and I think it is down to the individual hen.

most of mine have gone into full and partial moults so my egg tally has gone down from 14 a day to just 4  . You could give them a little boost of protein whilst they are moulting (some give fish flavoured cat food - but I don't bother) but it can last several weeks. At least by moulting now they won't be bald when the snows come
