mulch with 2 - 3 inches of compost etc, does the mulch go over the crown of the plant or around it.....and for those of you who aren't telepathic I'm refering to perennials lol! Thanks as always, Jude.

put it around it, unless it's a half hardy. Some of those get covered with mulch during the winter, to give them some frost protection
