verrry small egg
« on: August 26, 2010, 21:44 »
One of our new girls, a Black Star, gave us a bit of a surprise today, a few weeks earlier than expected she popped out this little thing as her first egg !

It weighs in at only 8 grams and just over 2.5 cm, its almost the same as a cadbury mini egg !

Presumably it is not something to worry about, just part of her development ?

Our other young girls started with 40+ gram eggs like the comparison pictured, so it's quite a difference  ???

My guess is its a protoype, just to make sure she has it right.  Might be a couple more odd balls before her egg factory swings into normal production?

My country man father in law always called them Witches eggs but basically yes it's nothing to be concerned about the hen is just getting into the swing of laying, you'll see.
