Hi.

excuse the title of my thread

I have had ducks in my garden for about 5 months now, I have 3 girl khaki campbells (i suspect 1 may be mixed with something else as she is much larger)
recently a couple of times a day they have been mimicing sex, 1 will get on top of the other and push her head down whilst the third will also join in pecking, it is not always the same duck in the same position, is this normal? there are also other movements down the other end (sure you get the picture!) is it a hierarchy kind of thing? is it cruel to be keeping them without a drake?

ps I am sure they are all girls as they all lay eggs!

When I had 60 KCs they were always at it,lots of domestic animals do,cattle etc. I never kept a drake  with them they can be pretty vicious when they get the urge,and there's not enough meat on them to bother with.

I am sorry, but thanks for the laugh....   I must have a lesbian chicken as well as other critters.  She acts like a rooster sometimes and mounts the other females.  I also have two male dogs that do the same to each other when they are angry at one another, two male rabbits that are separated with wire that moan and kiss each other through the wire.  It's a crazy place here on Green Acre Farm.  I think most of the time it's a frustration thing or aggression.

You have got ducks that do it  I have got female dogs that do it.

My ducks do it too - in fact the girls do it to each other, Bumble (drake) does it with the girls, tries with the chickens and his 2 young sons and Bee (drake) will only do it with his brother Bumble!
