When is it safe to remove butterfly netting from Brussel sprouts etc?

Mine have grown upto the height of the netting and I either need to take it off or build a taller cage for them - just removing it is obvioulsy much less work, lol.

I do use wider mesh netting in the winter though to avoid the weight of snow on the top of the cage, currently covered with debris netting -- keeps the pigeons off

I did a google search the other day and came up with the end of September. Unfortunately pigeons don't have seasons!

Beware of letting the plants touch the netting, they laid through mine when the plants put a spurt on during a wet spell and I have to pick all sizes of caterpillar off every day.
