Chicken boarding?
« on: September 01, 2010, 19:23 »
This is the first time we will have to find someone ot look after our birds while we go away. (The kids - 21 and 20) said they were staying home but now want to come). So how do others manage, are there any chicken boarders in Bristol that anyone knows of?
We have four laying hybrids and four hen chicks that will be about 11 weeks old when we go away.

My neightbours are looking after mine :)

I'd be wary of transporting your hens to somewhere else... the stress of the move can bring out any latent sniffles, they could go off lay for a while, and then there is the possibility of them picking up a new disease while they are away and bringing it back to your garden.

Much easier, and safer, if you can find someone to come to your place.

If you have an auto pophole opener, then you would only need one visit a day :)

I agree with Casey I sent mine to be looked after for a few days with someone I trusted and when they came back one was really stressed and went of lay, wouldn't put them through it again.  My Mum chicken sits now, and even though she is wary of them ( they love to come over by your feet and say hello or jump on the table when you are trying to eat!) I know they are looked after.

My neighbour looks upon it as a treat for her when she's left to look after them. She sits with a cup of tea & chats to them. :D
