Followed all the rules: -

Food and water available at all times.
Mixed corn late in the day.
Automatic pop hole door closing at dusk or just later.

Everything works a treat. Birds hear me coming with mixed corn late in the day and come running, have a feed and then off to bed. Pop hole closes and away they go to sleep, perfect.

I go out for the day and come home late at night and most of the birds are locked out and on sat on their outside perch obviously waiting for me  :)or more likely missing their mixed corn .

Any good ideas to prevent this?

stop the corn for a few days so they don't assume you will always bring them some - or you could set the door timer for a later time as most will take themselves to bed when it gets dark
