So if you get a serious infestation of couch grass in the strawberry patch and are trying to make use of the runners as well - what's the best way of dealing with the matter?

I've cleared the strawberry bed, put everything in pots and am going to spray the edges of the paths where the couch grass starts off.

Seems a mighty hard way to go about things but I've got an awful lot of the couch out of the beds and have a chance to leave them clear for some time to see if it comes back and to fork through again later.

And before anyone says - put the strawberries somewhere else, that will just leave some other crop full of couch grass if I don't win with it this side of next spring.

It's pretty much what I have to do in my strawberry bed and am repeating very soon. No idea why couch and strawberries seem so closely bonded but they are. First I dig up all the roots I can, let the patch sit for a few weeks and see how many seeds have sprouted, then get those and I'll spray whatever I can't seem to get out. When I feel things are in better shape, I add manure, and other stuff then put them back as I don't have any other place for them either. This year they'll be heavily mulched with straw which seems to keep the weeds at bay longer.
