at what age can you tell the sex of chickens.  We think (and hope) our three are girls.  They are 11 weeks old now are there any signs (other than they dont say cock doodle doo?)

Hi Daisy   ;)

I'm not sure if there is an easy way one can sex them at that age.
I think it's either when they're a day old or when they crow or start to lay eggs.
In my experience, feather sexing doesn't really work.

We'd all love to see some photos of your sweet chicks!! :D

sexing depends on the breed too. If you have both sexes, side-by-side, its is easier. Boys combs often grow quicker and pinker, same with wattles. Neck, 'heckle' feathers are  pointed in boys, round in girls. as they get older, the tail feathers of the cocks start to arch in the recognisable sickle shape.  Some breeds its is nearly impossible to tell...silkies and araucanas for example. Pekins show differences from about 4 weeks old, but again, easier to compare if you have both genders to look at.

ps Your LOOK like girlies to me  :D

thanks teapot, will check them out with your useful tips tomorrow.  The man who sold them to us said he thought they were girls but would take them back if not.  Suffice to say we love them now so they will have to stay whether or not (especially since he has a cafe that sells roast chicken!)
