Chicken Whisperer
« on: June 29, 2010, 22:47 »
Just thought I'd post and tell you how amazed I was that my 8 year old daughter managed to get a leg ring on one of the chickens ON HER OWN.  I'd given up months ago!

I said that to a social worker once coz we have large 100 yr old chimneys. She weren't impressed, I could tell, lolololol humourless whatsit!

Well done on your daughter, they always get away with stuff like that.....I think its because they "just" do it.

...she's been at it again

I went to put them in last night, expecting the usual run around and mouthfuls of dust, but the run was empty...they were already in bed!  She'd been in and couldn't put the door down, but they'd just stayed there and didn't even rush out when they heard me.

And I think you are all right about 'kids' around chickens - the other day my middle daughter surprised me by just standing there like some farmer with a chicken tucked under her arm.  They don't let me pick them up!

They won't be so smug when I get them to clean out the chucks mmmwwwahhhhahhhha

Gotta learn to earn a Wii somehow??? Get them going early, all us sisters had responsibilities, mine was my rabbits and guinea pigs that I went on to show. Now its 3 dogs, 3 cats, one horse, one pig, 11 chooks and a goose!

I really do think children have a simplicity to them. We as adults think too hard about stuff.

yes I think you're right about kids v adults and us thinking too hard about stuff.

Chicken is now without leg ring, so it's as skilled as getting them off as my daughter was putting it on!?

My lad doesn't really have ant interest in my hens - my daughter doesn't like them because she doesn't like the look of the comb, which she calls a glove - my other half doen't like their eyes
So i don't really get any help from any of my lot :(

Is going to be interesting in a couple weeks time when i go to the festival at Sidmouth and they'll have to look after them for me  :D

My girls come running to me each time they see me & love to help when i clean them & have a habit of climbing on me when i'm doing this :D
One of them comes & settles on my lap if i sit in there with them. - Other half thinks i'm mad because i sit & talk to them :D

Mine are ex-batts so their comb was really light pink...looked like little pieces of cooked bacon  :tongue2:

Their eyes are a bit, intense sometimes but it's all part of their charm I think.

Saw one of mine jump/half fly over a breeze block with both legs outstretched last night - I was right in the firing line so I got a view of the undercarriage so to speak.  Very funny to witness.  Then I got my toes pecked - I'd just put nail varnish on since I was going out, they must have thought it made my toes look edible :-)
