strawberry plant help
« on: July 15, 2010, 19:41 »
Excuse my dumbness...as I said before I am very new to this.

I was given some strawberry plants from my friend yesterday and her message from her son (who brought them to me) was, 'stick em in a bucket of water first'

Ok......now what?

I dont wanna call and ask cos she'll think I'm thick (which you lot are prolly thinking right now) lol

I gather I am awaiting them rooting?? But I dont know how long or what/where to put them after.....

any advise welcome for a veg growing dummie

The normal way to get new plants is to pot up runners (the long straggly stems that grow out of the side of the plants)  These are usually rooted in the soil, then cut off from the parent plant a few weeks later.  If this is what you have been given he may have meant soak them in water before planting.  If the plants you have been given have no roots then you would have to leave them in water until they root down (but I have no idea why anyone would do this as plants normally have tons of runners!)

They do have runners on..... :D
So I could actually plant them now and make sure the runners are firmly in the soil and they'll be ok for next year??
