Baby Plum Tomatoes
« on: July 12, 2010, 23:15 »
Whilst waiting for my greenhouse toms to ripen I'm having to buy from the supermarket.

I'm not a lover of big toms and usually buy/grow a cherry style tom.

Today I bought some baby plum tomatoes and blimey were they tasty... even for a Tesco tom!!!

So of course I now want to grow my own baby plum toms next year.

A)... Can anybody recommend a variety or do they just come labelled 'baby plum tomato'?
B)... Are they suitable for greenhouse growing?

many thanks

Well i'm new to all this growing so i might be wrong saying this , what i done at the start of the year was buy some very tasty cherry tom's from the supermarket , i just took some of the seeds out of them and put them in compost , now they are over 2 foot tall and have loads of fruit on them , only time will tell if these tom's turn out like the ones i bought . maybe you could do the same ???

I must admit... the thought had crossed my mind   :)

My sis has given me a tom plant called, er well, Italian Plum  :)

Its had a bad attack of the greenfly, but is slowly recovering.  Hopefully I will get something from it.  Remind me and I'll let you know, she bought the seeds from wilkos, and it may be close to what you need for next year

Is the supermarket plum tom you liked called `Piccalo' as i was so impressed with the taste that i saved the seed and have been growing plants from it for 3 years now.
I have a fine 5ft plant outside the back door loaded with toms some of which will be ripe by the end of this week. :)

And yes they are normally greenhouse grown.

I've no idea what type it is... I've searched all over the lovely Tesco packaging but it just says 'Baby Plum Tomatoes'  >:(
I will save some seed though  :)
