I've seen on our freecycle there's a possible readily supply of spent brewing 'grain', it doesn't say whether it's wheat or barley though.

Is it ok to feed it to chooks as a treat, and / or use it in the garden for composting (that's what they think you can use it for)??

Sorry cannot help re feeding to chooks. Re composting - i would be concerned that a lot of it could create an imbalance of nutients. You could ask on the allotment site.
