Please see my photograph. These little critters have come back again this year and i was wondering if anyone knows what they are and whats the best way of getting raid of them. We think they are lice and have tried smoking them and spraying them. Last year we were hit very heavy but i think we might of caught them early this year. They are about the size of a pin head. All suggestions welcome.

They do look like lice, I've not had a problem with them myself but I think you need to not only treat the coop but also the chickens themselves. I think most people on here use frontline for lice, just one or two drops of kitten strength, but I'm sure someone else can advise you on this.

Yep they look like lice.

I spray the chickens with Jonsons Antimite extra spray then change the bedding and spry the new bedding with it also. You have to retreat them in 7 days to get any eggs that may have hatched.

fleas and lice have 6 legs whereas ticks have 8.
