dug up a spud today

as above dug up a first early and was so dissapointed, i just knew from the off that the spuds were naff probably my fault for leaving them chitting too long then planting them too deep, basically i got 2 lovely spuds from 1 plant :(
still its only my 2nd term so i'm livin and learnin

you cant have planted them much deeper than hubby did ours he went down about 3 foot all the old boys stood around laughing. its a standard joke how deep can Chris get his spuds.

Maybe it was something else ???

It's likely that lack of water will have contributed more than anything; doubt that time chitting would have any impact.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It's quite comical on our site, anyone digging first earlies gets an audience just to see what doesn't come up. ??? It seems that an awful lot of us have had very little return on the hard work so you aren't alone.

I think Yorkie is spot on here , i dug a couple of mine up about 2 weeks ago ... the soil was wet on top ( about 2 inches ) but from 2" to 8" down was bone dry , so i really give them  a good soaking ... i mean i really flooded them , i dug  some up the other day and they have swelled up 3 times the size they were  ;)
