Leek Snipping
« on: June 28, 2010, 22:55 »
Have a few leeks planted into dibbed holes in pots, following some Monty Don video advice I trimmed the leaves after planting, to encourage the growth on stem, as he suggested. That done the leaves are growing like billy'o. Should I leave them or trim weekly?

Don't trim them again.

I only trim the leaves if I need to remove a bit of root to get them into the hole. That's just for balance, the theory being that they'll lose less water until the roots get established.

The evidence suggests that trimming makes no difference to the eventual size of the leek.

Some people do it some don't.
