Black coffee for your allotment?
« on: June 22, 2010, 19:34 »
I dropped in at my local Starbucks and asked for any spent coffee grounds and they were happy to give me a big bin bag half full.

So far i have used it when replacing a potato plant with a Butternut Squash to "up" the nitrogen again as it is a great slow release fertilizer.

I have also put a handful in the watering pot next to some of my squashes and the smell is so much better than manure when I'm watering. Folks think I am brewing up with some fresh coffee - well maybe, but only for my squashes!

What an interesting idea.... not heard of that one before. I just tend to drink the stuff rather than spread the grounds.  ;)

If you do a forum search on "coffee grounds" you'll get 3 pages of results of previous threads on this.

Bit of light reading for 3.00 p.m. this afternoon.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks DD. But not at 3pm I'm afraid - I've been banned from this forum at work. Apparently I'm dreaming of my allotment too much. Later then.

I'm late as usual.... 3.40 already!!  ;)

My break is only from 3 to 5pm today but I am not on the bed-time shift tonight!
