Hi all,

I have all my chooks on an allotment and one of the rules is that there is to be no cocks. I am facing a problem in that I purchased 3 baby silkies and now they have got older, a few of them are showing signs of being cocks. I have seen them jump on the back of the other hens whilst clamping on their necks with their beaks and also occasional crowing in the morning.

Is it possible to sex the silkies by physical appearance as I really only think there is one silky that is a cock and the others are hens. We have been ordered by the very nosey site manager to get rid of the "cocks" asap and need some help to prove him wrong.

silkies are very difficult to sex when young. How old are yours? Jumping on the backs is done by both sexes as it is a sign of dominance in the females.

silkies are hard to sex when young , but the cocks do have a much bigger comb like a wall nut as they say , but it can take a while to grow , and the hens do have a similar type of comb but much smaller hope that helps
