Ginger revisted again
« on: June 15, 2010, 16:54 »
The ginger i started earlier this year then checked on, as in previous post. Has sprouted with shoots about 2 inchs long out the top of compost. This ginger was discarded to the back of the poly/greenhouse, As it looked dead after a promising start, so i plonked it at the back behind the tom's, had a break from decorating and tidyed up the poly/grnh and discovered the ginger growing  :) As was said before you can mother some stuff to much, will let you know how they grow from here,  :)  :)   :D  :D

I have several pieces of ginger all planted in the same dish at the same time from the same hand of ginger. One shoot is about a foot high and the other half dozen or so are only about 2 inches high.  No idea why there is so much difference in them.

From what i have read and what has been said on this forum, They like heat and damp conditions to start with, They have a long growing season and might not flower in our climate. they are a tropical plant so spraying them with water that has  warmed up in your greenhouse or poly tunnel should help,
I have know planted mine in the soil of my poly/greenhouse with the peppers and chillis. As this is damp fertile soil. I will keep you updated on there progress.
