My garlics are all standing at the moment. Do the leaves fall over like onions when they are ready for picking.

  I plant hard neck varieties that produce a scape that curls around a couple to times as it grows and then uncurl later when the garlic is ready for lifting.
  I cut off all but one scape on one plant (as the bulbs seem to be bigger if you do this) and then wait until the one scape starts to uncurl and then lift and dry.

Great website argaric! I found it really interesting what the pros do.

I lifted some of mine last night from my garden. In retrospect I think it was a bit early. I had planted a mix of types and some were ready, one had split and a number had gone yellow. However I think a few might have been better left a bit longer. I have a load more on my allotment so will give them longer.
