I bought Joan J not this winter, the one before, and cos I was so disorganised I just bunged them willynilly in the flower borders, no extra feed or attention and had a great crop off of them.
This winter I lifted them to move them to 'the right place' and now have loads of new babies through the flower border :D ho hum.
So it is very hard to kill them if any part of the root is alive it will eventually regrow..........so I'd say leave them be :)

hiya,

My Joan J were planted out early this year, and as other have said the dire spring we had hasn't helped them. I am going to give mine until next year to see what happens, a couple have come and all are still green under the bark of the old canes so fingers crossed something might happen with them!

Always thankful for advice!

My Autumn fruiting rasps are similarly poor, planted late as the ground was frozen. Think I will just wait and hope they recover for the next year.

Don't expect too much from newly planted raspberries in their first year, especially given the spring we've had!

I replaced 5 of my un-named plants with Autmn Bliss this year and they are shooting a little but not a lot.

Give them a year and you will then be complaining about how they are taking over!  :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I've got some Joan J sitting outside my back door that haven't made it to the lottie yet!

They are still in minimum earth in the little bags they arrived in..... and they are growing away like mad!

They should get a permanent bed next week.... I'm hoping it doesn't stress them out too much to plant them out now

Are there better Autumn raspberries than Autumn Bliss?
