I'm always missing sideshoots SG.  The only thing with say 10 trusses, is that you'll get more but smaller fruit.  Last year my toms went mad, so I just left them to do what they waned.  I had lots of fruit, but they weren't as big as they should have been, and yes side shoots get fruit too, and I've sometimes missed them and they get tomatoes on too!!!  But same thing, the fruits end up being smaller, so this year I'm going to stop mine at 6 trusses and see what fruit I get.

You may get more, and they may be smaller, but often they won't all ripen either. So its best to stick to a smaller number of trusses 5 is good, athough on the big beefsteak types, 3 may be even better.

well Mr Next Door waved his magic wand and cut my tom plants to bits. He was killing himself laughing as some of the "side shoots" were bigger than the main stems... oh well I am only in my 1st season.
