As I've mentioned in other threads I have some ex-bat girls but thought it would be nice to add a bit of variety so went to the auction at the Gaggle of Geese in Dorset on Sunday. I was hoping to find a wheaten maran (only one there also had welsummer chicks & I'm not set up for tiddlers yet), possibly a blue bell or something else along those lines, but after some advice to steer clear of single birds and go for birds that have run together I forewent a single blue bell and a single silver laced wyandotte in favour of 2 speckled sussex which look like they've been to a paintball party and one was better at dodging than the other! I regret not going for the little blue bell, especially as she went for a ridiculous price, but for now the new girls are being given a bit of a runaround by my oldies and seem (relatively) happy roosting together with them.
I'd love to post photos but still can't get the hang of it...
