Pentland Javelin growing time?
« on: May 29, 2010, 14:48 »
My first earlies Pentland Javalin are 10weeks 4 days old, does anybody know how long they are meant to take ? as i was thinking of going down later to dig 1 plant up for tea.

I just cant find anywhere that says how long they take, i know they might be small but my mouth is watering thinking of tea  :)  . Im stuck in with kids at the moment so wont be able to  'furtle' till 5ish.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I only want to feed 2 adults and a 4yr old can spare 2 plants. ive even bought some smoked haddock and some nice fresh bread to go with them.

Patience ? whats that lol

At my age and having taught for years patience is pretty well established.

I'm waiting.... and waiting..... and waiting until I can have a good pile for everyone in the family.  ;)

I'm growing the same Pentland Javelin , so the question could be meant for me as well, and by the advice from everyone i'll wait a few more weeks as i planted mine on Good Friday.

The ideal time for earlies is about 12 weeks but we have not had ideal times this year. I planted my PJ on the 27th because beforehand it was too cold. I have 3 rows and another 25 in supermarket flower pots.  The rows are doing fine but the pots took a hit with the frosts and are now way behind. I am not expecting much before the middle of June and the flowers will be my best sign.

As Ivor Backache says, "Look out for the flowers"..... and then wait a bit  ;) that's what I do.

Certainly was a late start this year  :(
