Broody bullied hen
« on: May 19, 2010, 22:18 »
The hen who was top of the pecking order started getting picked on and chased over the weekend and then yesterday she was sitting on the nest box when I got home until bed time and was still there this morning when I turfed her out.

She was back there again tonight sitting on all 4 eggs that had been laid today, so I took those away and put her out in the garden.

Are the others picking on her because she is broody?  They are all nearly 28 weeks old.  Is she too young to sit on eggs for real, or would she manage to hatch them if I got some fertile ones?

She is still sitting there all day, she even moved nest box today to where the other hens had laid eggs.

I feel so sorry for her as my light sussex flies at her and pulls feathers out as soon as she sees her.

My daughter is convinced that she (the hen) has worms after watching her poo the other day - she even called me at work to describe it - so they are all being wormed now.

Should I get some eggs for her or is she too young?
