Green house fruits and vegetables?
« on: June 13, 2007, 02:12 »
I am going to make a 10x10 greenhouse for growth of fruits and vegetables with heat lamps/grow lights (lights set to 18 hours light and 6 hours dark) (CFL's work well correct?) and i was wondering what fruits are heavy producers and won't take up alot of ground space.  i was thinking for fruits cantalope and strawberries.  For vegetables green beans, broccoli, and tomato's.  Does anyone have any suggestions for other plants to plant?

hallo and welcome to the site from across the pond - my suggestions are:-

aubergines (egg plants) and cucumbers ?

cucumbers can be trained upwards against a trellis frame and can be very productive plants.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

Tobacco grows pretty well in your area

You'd be able to grow most things outside in West Virgina surely?  How much cooler are your summers than, say, Florida?

Welcome to the forum incidentally

well tobacco and egg plants are a no because i don't like egg plants and i don't use tobacco but cucumbers are something i will definetly think about.

last year summers reached up to like 105F but winters can reach up to like -5F so yeah i'll post a pic of my little garden that I am planning on extending by 8 ft. next year
