Annual weeds go into mine but perennials go into the council recycling bin.

I want to fill my compost bins up but my weeds of choice are mares tail, couch grass with a bit of bind weed. Currently these go into my green bin and as far away as possible from my lottie. Would soaking for a week render these compostable, I do feel guilty filling up my green bin with devil weeds.

Does any one know what happens to council green waste? Knowing what #i put into it I certainly wouldn't buy it

I try to keep the couch and bindweed roots separate from all the other, they drive me mad   Everthing else goes on the compost mixed with grass cuttings etc.  Trying to do more with comfrey this year - I didn't realise how effecient it is at drawing up nutrients from way down and storing it in the leaves - real good stuff 8)
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.

If it's sunny, I put all weeds out in the sun to wilt, and to dry the soil off the roots before they go in.  Couch grass, bindweed, cinquefoil, creeping buttercup - all the perennial nasties - I'd soak in water, in the dark, for a good couple of weeks, but so long as they're absolutely dead there should be no problem putting them in the compost.

Ground elder is the spawn of satan and I'd want it nowhere near my plot. I just got another crop thanks to my person of a neighbour who has chucked a load of it over the fence. He even threw the fence panel over as well as he had new one. I think I should bung him in the compost  >:(

I do dry my weeds off - and grass mowings - weather permitting of course, then they can either go in the compo bin or be burned. The ash all goes back on the plot.  At the moment I'm saving up the ash to put on my strawberry patches

the more green waste goes in the compo bin the more compost you will make :D  I have a bin of wet grot at the moment, nicely stewing away  :D
