Purple Sprouting Broccoli ~ which do you prefer?
« on: May 13, 2010, 18:17 »
Hiya

Last thing I have to buy now are my Purple Sprouting Broccoli seeds.

Which do you prefer / recommend, and why...?

Thanks so much, I really appreciate all the great help and advice on this forum  :) .

I've been growing the late PSD from Realseeds; big robust plants and I have had large quantities over the last 4 weeks, with lots of much smaller but v tender tips still coming. Only problem is it is very late to get started.

Rudolph are early, nice to have something to pick when theres not much about i find.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I've gone for Rudolph (early) and a Late PSB.  My first year of PSB so can't tell you if it'll work, but my plan is that I can have a good spread of season ...
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

Has anyone else found Rudolph to be not that hardy. I grew Rudolph last year with PSB to follow on. Rudolph did not come until March and two out of six plants were badly affected by frost and hardly yielded anything. The frost appeared to have got right into the stems. Those that yielded were good but if anything the buds ran to flower rather quickly.

I am changing tack a little and growing white SB and PSB this time. Good old fashioned combination.
