Ants Nest in Polytunnel
« on: May 11, 2010, 13:51 »
Found an ants nest in the ploytunnel, they're not making a beeline for any of the crops but I don't want them! - any ideas as to the best way to get rid of them? Thank you. Jude.

I use polenta sprinkled round the nest. The theory is that the ants take it to the queen who will eat it and can't digest it so dies = end of nest. Same idea as using bran around plants to deal with slugs.

Brilliant, :) I'll try the polenta as I've got an enourmous ants nest next to my strawberries and having discovered 3 very large red strawberries and gone to pick them, the backs were all missing and there were ants all over them  :tongue2:  and polenta seems more organic than chemicals to me.

I've got a huge nest under the whole garden and patio. Grass is bald and yellow in places despite care. I read somewhere that there is a gynormous nest that stretches all across the country so I haven't a hope in hell of getting rid of them. My chickens eat ants...but not enough! Is there anything else that eats them?
