Hi,

I am newbie too so not a lot of help! But I agree with you about taking on ex-bats, I thought maybe next time as there seems to be quite a lot that can go wrong with them. What about trying to keep an old breed.

When I got mine I was on the look out for a pure old breed, I ended up with a crossbreed Rhode Island Red with Light Sussex in the end and they are lovely and lay really well.

Welcome to you as well  this site seems really helpful and its the chickens that benefit too from us this knowledge that is passed about. I can see I shall be a hen house addict in the house and out of the house now
