Hi,

I am newbie too so not a lot of help! But I agree with you about taking on ex-bats, I thought maybe next time as there seems to be quite a lot that can go wrong with them. What about trying to keep an old breed.

When I got mine I was on the look out for a pure old breed, I ended up with a crossbreed Rhode Island Red with Light Sussex in the end and they are lovely and lay really well.

Welcome to you as well  :) this site seems really helpful and its the chickens that benefit too from us this knowledge that is passed about. I can see I shall be a hen house addict in the house and out of the house now  :)
