Update and new question on the little black hen
« on: June 09, 2007, 15:39 »
Thank you purplebat and chelle your advice worked about giving her a run on her own along side the others. You were right it did take a while but the little black hen is now getting on OK with the other chickens. In the meantime we got 5 more POLs which we put in with her so she had her own flock to boss about. We left it about a week after getting the new chickens and then let the whole lot together and it is very peaceful in chicken land!

Does anyone know what type of chicken she is - she is a very good layer -an egg a day regularly. This is her:

We also have another black chicken who we got at the same time who in 3 weeks has only given us one egg. Does anyone know what type she is - and why she is not laying - all the other hens are fine:

Thank you, Dawn

The hen in the top  picture could be a black star Dawn.

I'm not sure about the other one, there are lots of pictures of breeds to look through Here Dawn.

She's a real cutie agapanthus whereas the second one is completely different in character. They are supposed to be 'sisters' but I can't see it myself. The second one, 'Satanita' we call her, runs up and down the back perch at bedtime getting everyone in their right places - tonight she had all her feathers puffed up with importance and her tail fanned out like a peacock but parallel to her body rather than across it and her feathers gleam green/blue when the light catches them. I was hoping that munty would be around to give his opinion.

I did a google on black star aunty and she does look similar, thank you.
