No spears showing yet from my 2nd year anniversary of planting of 1 yr old crowns.

Everyone elses spears are going great guns from established beds.

Last year the spears showed in early April. 

Bit more patience? I'm going to be gutted as so much attention was paid to the preparation.

Salad bed here we come.

Your asparagus should be showing by now as they're 2 yrs old. If you know where the crowns are, have a very gentle prod around to see if the roots are still plump, and if so, then more patience is needed. If the soil is very dry, then a watering might help.

Don't want to hijack but I bought some packs of crowns from Wilkinsons the other day and they had little shoots already starting in the pack...

Should I just bin them as a bad idea or is there still time to get a bed together out of these?

They are live plants; plant them!

(But don't even think of pinching a spear from them this year!)
