two eggs
« on: April 26, 2010, 21:38 »
hi all, new to this and have a problem...i have  an 8 month old maran, lovely bird. problem is that she lays 2 eggs at a time every 3/4 days,  one of these eggs is soft and the hen eats it. then nothing for 3 days then another 2 eggs. will this improve so that i get 1 egg at a time. and will she stop eating if the shell is hard? any advice would be gratefully accepted.

It could be just because of the stress of moving house, so just keep an eye on her for now. Does she have access to oyster shell and mixed grit all the time?

one of my hens is laying soft and then hard eggs too.  The other three all lay nice hard shells but hers are either none existant or very easy to break.  They all have access to layers and oyster shell, grit plus what ever they pick up in the garden.
