Hi everyone

We seem to have another problem with one of our hens.  Yesterday there was a fairly large pile of lumpy blood (like clots of blood) in amongst what looked like the white of egg.  It was laid around the garden late afternoon.  There was quite a lot.

There have been some issues with laying lately - we've had a soft egg in the past 7 days and also a very very tiny shelled egg.  I guess it could also be a sign of worms?  They were wormed late last year but I think I need to get them done again.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.  We only have two hens (and are pretty sure we know which one it was) but they are both pretty perky and acting as normal.

Am going to go to the vets today and get some wormer anyway and perhaps some antibiotics?

worm them 2 or 3 times a year just to be sure.
not sure about the lumps of blood in the white. Was there no sign of a yolk? it could have been a soft shelled egg again that had broke on it's way out.

Yea - just off to vets to get some wormer.

It was really weird because it looked very much like the white (well, clear) goo from an egg but no yolk and no shell.  Should have got a photo really.............

Will keep any eye on her and see if she lays normally again...

Haven't forgotten about popping up to see your setup by the way :-)  Just in the process of moving house so haven't got too much time  at the moment.

Have sorted some new wormer so hope that sorts it, whatever it was.

Have spoken to three vets in the area, none of which could advise on what might have caused the blod clots... if anyone has experienced this I'd be grateful for any advice!
