I do have marigolds growing, but nowhere near flowering yet, I will prob have to buy a few!

I have loads too but likewise they are not flowering yet.

Marigolds don't deter blackfly - they are whitefly deterers and work very well - my tomatoes never have whitefly.

But marigolds do attract slugs and snails. So I put snail bait ('Growing success' - hedghog friendly), pinch out the broadbeans, ecourage ladybirds - collect them from other places is necessary and hope for the best.
Apparently early planted (Oct/Nov previous year) broadbeans are less susseptible. She put hers in in April (The Sutton). So we will have to see!
O
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

UPDATE 2

No new blackfly after the strong tea treatment on the 29/5 and there's a load of pods setting too!

Aidy, how did you get on with the strong tea?

I tried  a bit of tea mixture in the garden on my 4 runner bean plants covered in blackfly, I made a judgment of 1 tea bag to 100ml water, (Cos I only need to treat 4 plants!) I added a tiny squrt of garlic puree for good measure, and sprayed yesterday.. today significantly less blackfly, not even sure if what is left is even alive.... gave another spray today.. looks like a good tip!! (minimum effort tooo!)
