Leeks are just about indestructible and I've never yet planted out one as thick as a pencil. As Kirsten says, as long as the tops are sticking out of the dibber hole they'll be fine. They need a long growing season but that's the beauty of them...fresh veg in the middle of winter  :)

couldn't have put it better meself lol,love the summer season but also miss the broth season aswell :D

I totally agree, i think for the average gardener the size you want to aim at for planting out is drinking straw diameter,

Yes, I was surprised at that too - my first year growing them. They look exactly like my spring onion seedlings. I wonder if onion seedling look the same?
