Japelenos outside

Thinking of giving some plants to relatives, will they do any good outside on a patio or will they need a plastic tom house or similar?

I've started my chillies inside and once I've hardened them off they will mainly be going outside. I'm going to keep a couple of plants on the kitchen windowsill but a couple will be going in a hanging basket - if it works it'll look brill. In the same way that Uncle Monty considers the cabbage infinitely more beautiful than the rose, I consider the chilli infinitely more beautiful than the fuschia  :D

I grew Jalepenos outside last year - they were in big pots (like tomato pots) and on a very sheltered south facing patio.  There were loads of fruit but of all the chillies I grew outdoors, the Jalepenos didn't ripen until the plants were brought inside for winter where it was much warmer.  So to answer your question ... with hindsight they might have been better in the greenhouse if I'd had the space  ;)

I think chili plants look stunning - really delicate leaves and lovely flowers.  We had friends round the other night asking where we had "bought that flower from"  ::)  They couldnt believe it was going to produce beautiful edible (albeit hot!) chillies!

Bearing in mind my location, most of my 6 plants will be lopped to prevent growing too tall and remaining on my south facing kitchen window sill.  Might try one or two in a plastic greenhouse.

Haha - very good! What a quality film - endlessly quotable! BTW it's Vick. I used to use hitmewithyourrhythmvick but it's such a faff to write. The song makes me laugh and my name's Vicky hence...
