runner beans-is it too early?
« on: April 17, 2010, 22:11 »
Hi
I wonder if anyone could tell me if it was too early to plamt out my runners yet? They were about 8-10 inches tall and hardened off ok (however my patio is pretty protected).  I planted them out today and now im left feeling a bit worried. if i loose them all would it be too late to start again from scratch???

Thanks

kelly

Can you put some fleece over them as they will not stand a chilly night let alone a frost.
I only sowed a few in the last few days and even that is early, as I chance a few early ones.
The main sowing I don't do for another couple of weeks, and you can sow them direct up till June, so no panic if you do have to resow.
Lesson for next year...don't sow so early :)

Yes, too early.  I've done it myself over the years and planted out stuff too early.  The warmer weather brings things along so fast they catch up with those sown early in the cold. ::)

I'll be a-maized if they get away with it (for gourds sake!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I haven't sown beans courgettes sweetcorn or squashes yet !!I have noticed that some of you have sown sweetcorn already!
I learned one year the hard way too. Sowed beans way too early in one of those plastic mini greenhouses and they were a pain to untangle....never again.
The bigger the seedling gets,  the more hassle it is to look after it.
