re-using capillary matting
« on: April 04, 2010, 21:39 »
I bought a few 1m sqaure sheets of capillary matting last year and found it worked well for  a few weeks.  However it now looks very manky and feels hard.  Has anyone got any experience of re-using it  or is it best just to start again with new?  Certainly seemed to become less effective last year the longer I used it.  Ideas that have worked for revitalising it would be gratefully received.

Give it a good hand wash with detergent in hot water or, if you have a lot, sneak it into the washer (after getting the soil off) ..!!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Do you live in a hard-water area?  If so, limescale deposits in the matting can make it feel hard.  Same practice as for kettles - dissolve it out with a mild acid (diluted lemon juice or vinegar will work) and rinse well.
