That's a relief, just found this thread after taking the low-down shoots off all mine this evening!  Some of them were a foot or so long

If you've still got then - stick 'em in a pot & root them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I have a truss question too.
Should I feed as soon and some flowers/buds appear? Or feed when the fruit appears?

When the fruit appears ('set' is the technical term!).

my tomatoes are going red !! :D well, just two, one on each plant.
i've followed your advice dave and cut off all the growing tips now.  i've also gave them a good de-leafing to let the light and air in.

i guess they need watering about 3 times a week at the moment , depending on how hot the weather is.  should i give them some feed every time i water now? :)

my smaller alicantes are looking much more tidier thanks to me learning a lesson and removing those base shoots as well as the side shoots.

They need watering suffiently to keep them moist. I would not quantify that in terms of how many times a week.

They do not need feeding at each watering, overfeeding can result in a lot of foliage growth. A rough guide is once a week when the first truss has set, twice a week when the second has set.

I have just rigged up one of those water-butt fed dripper systems in my GH to feed mine - seems to be working pretty well at dripping, as far as I can see!

So do I just keep the soil moist, then?  Never done this before...
