   Speckled star.  Define.  I thought it was Cuckoo Maran/Barred Plymouth Rock but some say it's Maran/Rhode Island/Red.  Also Black Star .. I thought was Rhode/Rock but some are saying Maran/Rock.

I know hybrids are being bred anew all the time, but surely once a cross is named as a type, you can't use the same name for a different crossing ?

I think that names like Black Star, Speckled Star, Amberlink etc can be changed at a whim.  The hatchery we use has just been taken over by Hendrix Genetics, and the Bovans Goldlines they hatch are now going to be called Bovans Browns! 

Then different rearers sometimes call them different names.  Calder Rangers, Warrens, Hi-Sex, are basically all the same breed

Oooooohhhhhhhhhhhh so I may have a different chicky than I think !  Nelly and Betsy the newbies are allegedly  speckled stars of maran/rock cross.  They look like both so I'm hoping the Maran is in there.  I'll certainly know when they're laying.  They're just wee lasses at the moment with diddy little combs.  Not squatting yet. Must get round to doing some photos

Had a quick google!  most sites say you are right, the Speckled Star is a maran Plymouth Barred rock cross
