Your allotment owners probably do not want water wasted. Mine takes about 10 mins to water, watered twice last year, on a full size plot. Prefer watering can where needed. Some twit broke the water pipe and cost the allotment £500.
If you really do not want to stand and water, you could try a waterbutt system using rainwater or offer to pay £100 extra to keep them happy.
Some allotment sites do not have main water.

Written into our tenancy agreement is that we cannot use hoses in any form and only water using cans or other containers.

Water butts with rainwater are OK to use with seep hoses though  :)

You harvest rainwater into butts that you cadge or buy, and link together as many as you can and use that to water your plot.  Most plants don't need watering anyway so it shouldn't be an arduous task. Most plots don't have mains water but folks just get on with it. We have plenty of rainfall here to be largely self-sufficient

We have stand pipes and you are allowed to use hosepipes but not sprinklers. As the water is metered they ask that we are carefull and that where possible we use water from a waterbutt and watering cans. This seems quite reasonable to me.
Hurray finally retired
two plots now 31A and 35A
