They're absolutely fine so long as the chit shoots aren't long and white - the seed tuber is putting its goodness into the chit shoots.

You can plant them out any time you like - so long as your soil isn't frozen or waterlogged, though.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Radish, beetroot and carrots are starting to germinate under cloches.

I was hoping to plant mine on 17th, but think I will delay for another week, so maybe you could as well

Outside, raised bed, under a cloche.

Nearer the equator (than Bristol)? Very slightly. Less effect from Gulf Steam though!!!

I am desperate to get going so have started herbs in propagator in kitchen and leeks and garlic chives & cucumber on bedroom window sill. The leeks sand chives are around 1" high however there is now a strong smell of garlic in the bedroom so the wife has asked me to move them.

My only concern is that the leeks packet says they need to be put outside in late May so I wonder if I need to slow them down a bit.

I dont know about garlic chives but I think leeks are meant to cope fairly well with the cold. Often people sow them in trays until they are pencil thick and then plant them in the ground. Waiting until they are this thickness will often take until May - perhaps that is what the packet is suggesting. They should cope ok with normal cold but I am not sure about tiny seedling in the savage frosts we seem to be getting at the moment. You could try putting them outside during the day to start to harden them off and if a hard frost is forcast then bring them in and put them somewhere cool.

My potatoes may get in on the 17th after all. :)
Out in the garden I noticed that many of the perennials have started into growth, so the soil must be warming up at last 8)

Should I put them up my back passage toget them used to cold nights ??

-  I wouldn't they might suffer from wind-burn!! :tongue2:
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.
