hi! can anyone plese tell me which is better - bumper bit or beak ring to stop pecking feathers?  would it be possible to fit to a smallish hen? many thanks. Also, if i separate her from the others in a run inside the WIR do you think she would go back to her nasty habit when she is withthem again? lucyloux

From what little experience I've had, the bumper bit works well for a couple of weeks until the beak wears and can close fully again .. and the habit isn't broken. To my amazement I've cut treats out - not as punishment but to make sure enough layers are being nommed up .. and the problem seems to be stopping.  Can't guarantee it .. can't guarantee anything with chucks .. but see the threads about layers !

mmmm - thanks chooksbury that is interesting, i read the other post too about not giving extras and as from this morining mine have had nothing but pellets - and i noted that they were still walking around with fullcrops this evening despite previously telling me lies about how they would not eat the layers and would starve if they had to survive on them alone! but i did see her pick out some feathers though! im thinking about keeping her in a run inside the wir if it doesnt stop. lucyloux
