when i went to the choks this morning i found devastation 9 dead chooks all over the place whatever it was killed them whent into three of my runs and killed and attacked my ducks to one of which doesnt look to good the fence is 6feet high no holes anywhere i wondered could it be feral ferrets ? i am going back tonight to set traps when i have locked up the chooks if it wasnt so cold i would sleep in the car with shep my collie but it would be freezing the ducks sleep out all the time they have got a coop that they only use to lay there eggs dont expect any of those for a while till they settle down again they were certainly  in shock ive moved the to a completely closed run with roof will let them free range when i am about after a couple of days the chooks i lost were 5 new light sussex ,3 maran,1 brown.

Hi,so sorry about your chucks :(,
Your right, it does sound like a fox, if you were anywhere else, the fox would be blamed. I wonder how many other attracts have been wrongly blamed on the fox? Do you have mink or polecats etc?Lets hope they will be safe tonight and your traps catch the culprit. Sending hugs :( x

Hi so sorry about your poor birds , do you have weasles or stoats there, as I have lossed two bantams this week - just their wings left,  and I have seen weasles in the area.

Do you have stoats/weasels/polecats or similar? We have them in Wales and they will attack birds and rabbits. I've never caught anything in the trap which we have in the coop area, but next door caught a rabbit in a trap and it was bitten through the mesh by the stoat.
