potato chitting query
« on: March 06, 2010, 13:45 »
Never had problems chitting spuds before, nor growing but a few of my King Edwards that are now chitting have become very shrivelled and almost squishy - more so than I ever recall happening in previous years.

There are still good healthy looking sprouts on them though so I assume all will be fine when planted but is that likely to be the case?

If they are just spongy they have may have lost moisture through being too hot e.g. central heated house. Put them somewhere cooled and spray water on them each day. They will be OK.

If they have been kept somewhere  cool and when you squeeze them there is liquid oozing then they may have been too cold and got frosted. These are not OK.
