Turf sods

I'm taking up a bit of turf in the garden - can I just throw it in the compost bin?

I don't see why not, so long as you place it upside down.
What most people do is place it upside down in clumps(sods)in a corner of your garden and forget about it for a year, it will turn into lovely loam.

I placed mine in my raised beds on my allotment, these are now my seed beds.
