Dry Hopping
« on: February 21, 2010, 15:59 »
Does anyone have any experience/advice for dry hopping? Am I correct in thinking this is done in the fermenting vessel and not in the keg?

I am planning on dry hopping a wherry kit to give it a little bit extra flavour.

Cheers,

TBo

Either is the answer. In the fermenter after the initial vigorous fermentation has subsided or in the keg after you rack it.

I prefer to dry hop using a muslin bag in the keg.

Dry hopping is for more aroma than bittering taste. If you want more hop flavour to a wherry, simply add one of the cans to 2gl of water, bring it to the boil, throw in a good handful of high alpha hops and simmer for 30 mins. Strain, add the other can, top off to 5 gl. check temp, pitch yeast.

Thanks for the comments. I just read up about dry hoping only adding aroma and then about the option of making a hop tea. The method of boiling one can with some hops for 30 mins looks worth a go, cheers. I think I'll include a bit of dry hopping for luck and see how it goes.

Cheers,
