you dont have to do it all at once sally mix the corn with the wet layers and then get mash  and they will swap over in about a month .. jusfeed em half and half if they arehungry they will eat the wheat  barley etc

I have been reading with interest your comments on soft shell. My girls are about 30 weeks old.  Last weekend we had big thunder storms & both laid eggs with no shells.  Last night I looked at this web site, my hubby & I laughed at Gertie's egg, then low & behold today Daisy laid an egg about the same size!! I am convinced that they were scared by the thunder, so I shall wait to see if it all settles back to normal.  I haven't worked out how to put an image on here, help would be appreciated !

Hi mumsy - Welcome to the forums !

Hens can be frightened by a thunder storm and have a bilp in their egg production system,  It should settle down again.
