Coop Bound !
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:06 »
Its now day 2 for me and our girls and I have a couple of questions. Its snowing heavy again. And the girls just don't want to come out and eat. Just sitting in the cozy coop.
Yesterday this happened and lunchtime we nugged them out and all was good. So, wot should I do ? hold my nerve and wait. Its worrying me as their food and water is in the run [covered] any ideas?
We have a VSB pop hole, but I can't work out how to get their food to them [ when they eventually  come out] As I bring the food in at night. Ive been covering up the light sencor and uncovering it, putting food out. Otherwise the door opens early and no food will be their for them. What should I been doing? I think it should be simple but can't work it out.
Good New! We did manage to get the girls in with the torch method last nite.
Thanks for any advice. ps still snowing

I know when I got my girls they spent ages in the coop.  They were very nervous and didn't want to come out for long.  I got them in November and we didn't have snow or anything.  I think they must have been brought up in a big shed and only been out occasionally.  I ended up putting some food in the coop but not sure that was the right thing to do.  They do come out eventually but can take time.  The snow could be the main reason though.  I am sure some of the other members who are much more experienced than me will give some good advice.  This forum has been so very useful for me as I am a relative newbie myself.

Thank you. I am pleased to say they made it out and ate like crazy. So when the sun does come out Im sure they will be racing out. I think you right saying they were in a large area and thats why ours seem v timid especially when garden birds fly over. They do a funny little flappy dance and freeze. So funny.

I read your posts at lunchtime but I have forgotton my password and can't sign on at work so couldn't post.  When I got home they were waiting for me in the run and seemed very happy.
